The New York Hall of Science and TryScience recognize the importance of protecting information we may collect from visitors to this site. This privacy statement describes the privacy practices for the www.tryscience.org site. We intend to give you as much control as possible over your personal information. In general, you can visit TryScience.org without revealing any information about yourself.
New York Hall of Science (TryScience.org, TryScience.com, and TriScience.org) is a licensee of the TRUSTe Children’s Privacy Program. TRUSTe is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to build users’ trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the use of fair information practices. Because this site wants to demonstrate its commitment to your privacy, it has agreed to disclose its information practices and have its privacy practices reviewed for compliance by TRUSTe. In particular, by displaying the TRUSTe children’s seal, this web site has agreed to disclose its privacy practices and adhere to the TRUSTe Children’s Seal Program when attempting to collect or use information from children under 13.

Security and Not Sharing
We take precautions to keep secure the user information you give us and we will not disclose that information to anyone else for any reason, except in the case of law enforcement requests as described below. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.
Information Collection and Use
If you give us personal information about yourself in your Internet correspondence with us we will only respond to your request for information as you indicate. This information is not used for any other purpose. . If you use our 'Contact Us' section, you will have to give us your e-mail address if you wish us to reply to you. After we reply, we will delete your e-mail address from our files within a reasonable time period.
In the Teacher section, if you give us personal information in your Internet correspondence, we will only respond to your request for information as you indicate. This information is not used for any other purpose, and will not be disclosed to a third party, unless we are required to do so by law. If you register for the newsletter, we will only use your information to distribute an email newsletter. You may remove your email address from this distribution list at any time by sending an email to TryScience at talktous@tryscience.net, or by clicking the link included at the bottom of every newsletter.
Like most standard Web site servers we use log files. This includes Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, and track users’ movement in the aggregate. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We occasionally have anonymous surveys. These surveys are not tied to personal information.

Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law if we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.

TryScience.org contains links to other websites. It is important that you understand that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of those other sites. You should be aware when you move from our site to other sites and you should read those other sites’ privacy statements to find out their practices concerning personally identifiable information that you give them. We try to indicate when you are moving onto a site that is not under our control. This privacy statement applies only to our website.
Cookies
TryScience.org pages currently uses cookies only to collect statistics on repeat site visitation (third party cookies through our web statistics software, IBM SurfAid) and as a placeholder for reloading settings on a particular page when you return to it. No personal information of any kind is gathered through the use of cookies, nor is personal information tied to the use of cookies while on our site. However some sites, which our site links to, may use cookies for other purposes. We have no control over the use of cookies on their sites. Again, we encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy statements of other sites you visit.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our Homepage so you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If we were to start using personal information from children in any new manner we would obtain verifiable parental consent prior to any use of that information. Verifiable consent is obtained through offline methods such as through a signed permission slip to make sure we are getting consent from the parent.
Special Note to Parents
We also recognize the importance of protecting information we may collect from children who visit this site. If your child provides us with his or her e-mail address in order to make an inquiry through our 'Contact Us' link, then we will use your child’s e-mail address only to make a one-time response to that request for information, after which the e-mail address will be deleted. We will monitor and remove personally identifiable information prior to publication of any “Kids Comments” on our Experiments page. Similarly, we encourage the use of a fake name when a child signs up for our Multi-user games.
We do not transfer personal information to third parties, whether from a child, parent or general user.
Children’s access to an activity on the site is not conditioned on giving out more personal information than is reasonably necessary for that activity.
Parents have the right to review personal information collected from their child if it has not already been completely deleted from our systems. You can do this by contacting us at the below contact information.
Parents have the right to have personal information collected from the child deleted, or refuse further collection and use by using the contact information below and requesting deletion.
